The utmost chastity of Mary, mother of Jesus. Lesson for our mothers, sisters, daughters #islam

The Utmost Chastity of Maryam, Mother of Jesus

The Qur’an uses expressions to indicate the lofty virtues and utmost heights of the chastity of Maryam (peace be upon her), indicating the great status she holds amongst mankind. Allaah, the Exalted said:

And (remember) she who guarded her chastity [the virgin Mary], We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (shirt or garment) [through our Spirit, Jibreel], and We made her and her son [Jesus] a sign for the worlds (men and jinn). (Al-Anbiya 21:91)
Comments

This verse occurs after the mention of Zakariyaa (alayhis salam), the father of Prophet Yahyaa (John) (alayhis salaam), and Zakariyaa was an old man who was married to an old and infertile wife, yet Allaah blessed them with a son, a prophet. Allaah mentions Zakariyyaa alongside and before the example of Maryam because in both cases an extraordinary thing occurred.
The meaning of this verse is: Remember Maryam (peace be upon her) who is being praised, and whose status is being explained, and whose nobility is being announced, the one who preserved her innocence and virginity through the utmost chastity by safeguarding from what is unlawful and everything that brings one closer to what is unlawful (in terms of sexual relations). Nay, she even guarded herself from what was lawful, thus, not marrying due to being preoccupied and engrossed in worship, and in serving her Lord. Indeed when Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to her in the form of a man of good appearance and manners, she said, as occurs in the Qur’an:

She said: “Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allah) from you, if you do fear Allah.” (Maryam 19:18)
As a reward for her utmost piety and chastity Allaah, the Exalted, rewarded her by bestowing her a son without the intervention of any male, (as is the usual order of things). Hence, she maintained her chastity. Jibreel was sent to give her glad tidings and he came with the spirit which was breathed into her, leading her to conceive, by the permission of Allaah. Both Mary and Jesus were made a sign for the worlds (of men and jinn) in that Mary gave birth without male intervention and Jesus spoke as an infant, and miracles were made to occur through him, such that generation after generation would make mention of them, and that they may come to know that Allaah is powerful over all things, and that He creates whatever and however He wills.

This lofty and noble status of Maryam (peace be upon her) in the Qur’an and in the Prophetic tradition and in the Islamic tradition in general contrasts with what is found of denigration and hate amongst factions of the Jews, this emanating from the Talmudic descriptions of Jesus and the Mary (may peace be upon them both, and may Allaah absolve and purify them above what the oppressors claim).

The Messiah Jesus Was No More Than a Messenger

Posted by IslamJesus.ws,

Allaah, the Sublime and Exalted, stated in the Qur’an:

The Messiah (Jesus, son of Mary) was no more than a Messenger, many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother (Mary) was a Siddeeqah (she believed in the words of Allah and his Books). They both used to eat food [as other human beings do while Allaah does not eat]. Look at how We make the signs clear to them, yet look at how they are deluded from the Truth. (5:75)
Comments

In this verse, Allaah establishes the invalidity of the saying of the Christian sects who appeared after Eesaa (peace be upon him) and ascribed divinity to him. The mother of Eesaa, Mary (peace be upon her) gave birth to Eesaa like all other women give birth, and this is only characteristic of humans, not of the Lord of the Worlds. Eesaa is simply a messenger like all the other messengers of Allaah who came and went. Allaah performed many miracles through the person of Eesaa (peace be upon him) as signs, admonitions, lessons and evidences for his truthfulness, just as He had done with previous Messengers.

His mother Mary (peace be upon her) was a very truthful woman in word and deed and she was a believer in previous scriptures and in the signs of Allaah. The words siddeeq, siddeeqeen, siddeeqah (representing the utmost truthfulness in intention, word and deed and congruency between them) are used in the Qur’an as the highest rank and status which comes after Prophethood, meaning the highest rank a human can achieve short of Prophethood.

Both Eesaa and his mother Mary used to eat food, because they were in need of food and drink in order to sustain their bodies, and anyone who is like that can never ever be a deity in truth, since one who is like this is dependant upon another and is not self-sufficient. And all people of sound innate disposition (fitrah) know that dependence upon food is a sign of incapacity and he who is incapable (of self-sufficiency) can never be the deity in truth. Al-Baghawi, the exegete (mufassir), states that the mention of food here is an indirect expression of the passing of stool and urine, meaning that anyone who ate and drank must necessarily pass stool and urine, and thus, how can the one characterized as such be a deity in truth? So this is a subtle allusion to the falsehood of the claim of the Christians that Eesaa is divine.

Allaah says, “Look at how We make the signs clear to them, yet look at how they are deluded from the Truth” this truth is recognized by people whose innate dispositions are intact and sound, and for this reason many of those who are disillusioned with the Christian doctrines innovated after Eesaa (peace be upon him) know and recognize the truth of what is said regarding Eesaa in Allaah’s final revelation, the Qur’an, because their innate dispositions still have a semblance of recognition of what is imprinted in their souls, that there is no creator, provider and sustainer worthy of worship besides Allaah alone.

Refer to the tafsirs (explanations) of al-Tabari, al-Baghawi, Ibn Kathir, al-Sa’dee and Tafsir al-Muyassar for further elaboration upon this particular verse.

Qur’aanic Proof that All of the Prophets Were Muslim (And More…)

Proof That the Only Religion Acceptable to Allaah is One (And it is Islaam)

“Truly the religion with Allaah is Islaam.” – Aali ‘Imraan (3):19

“And whoever seeks a religion other than Islaam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.” – Aali ‘Imraan (3):85

Proof That the Religion of All of the Prophets is One (And it is Islaam)

He (Allaah) has ordained for you the same religion which He ordained for Nooh (Noah), and that which We have inspired in you (O Muhammad), and that which We ordained for Ibraaheem (Abraham), Moosaa (Moses‎) and ‘Eesaa (Jesus), saying you should establish the religion and make no divisions in it. – Ash-Shooraa (42):13

And strive hard in Allaah’s Cause as you ought to strive. He has chosen you and has not laid upon you in the religion any hardship. It is the religion of your father Ibraaheem (Abraham). It is He (Allaah) Who has named you Muslims both before and in this (the Qur’aan), that the Messenger (Muhammad) may be a witness over you and you be witnesses over mankind! – Al-Hajj (22):78

Say (O Muslims), “We believe in Allaah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibraaheem (Abraham), Ismaa’eel (Ishmael), Ishaaq (Isaac), Ya’qoob (Jacob), and to Al-Asbaat [the twelve sons of Ya’qoob (Jacob)], and that which has been given to Moosaa (Moses) and ‘Eesaa (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them (with regards belief – i.e. believing in some and disbelieving in others), and to Him we have submitted (as Muslims).” – Al-Baqarah (2):136

Or were you witnesses when death approached Ya’qoob (Jacob)? When he said unto his sons, “What will you worship after me?” They said, “We shall worship your God (Allaah), the God of your fathers, Ibraaheem (Abraham), Ismaa’eel (Ishmael), Ishaaq (Isaac), One God, and to Him we submit (as Muslims).” – Al-Baqarah (2):133

“And I have followed the religion of my fathers, – Ibraaheem (Abraham), Ishaaq (Isaac) and Ya’qoob (Jacob), and never could we attribute any partners whatsoever to Allaah. This is from the Grace of Allaah to us and to mankind, but most men thank not (i.e. they neither believe in Allaah, nor worship Him).” – Yoosuf (12):38

Those to whom We gave the Scripture [i.e. the Tauraat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel), etc.] before it, – they believe in it (the Qur’aan). * And when it is recited to them, they say: “We believe in it. Verily, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed even before it we have been from those who submit themselves to Allaah in Islaam as Muslims. – Al-Qasas (28):52-53

Nooh (Noah) – Upon Him Be Peace – Was Muslim:

And recite to them the news of Nooh (Noah). When he said to his people: “O my people, if my stay (with you), and my reminding (you) of the Aayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allaah is hard on you, then I put my trust in Allaah. So devise your plot, you and your partners, and let not your plot be in doubt for you. Then pass your sentence on me and give me no respite. * But if you turn away, then no reward have I asked of you, my reward is only from Allaah, and I have been commanded to be one of the Muslims.” – Yoonus (10):71-72

Ibraaheem (Abraham) – Upon Him Be Peace – Was Muslim:

Ibraaheem (Abraham) was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim Haneefan (Islaamic Monotheism – to worship none but Allaah Alone) and he was not of Al-Mushrikoon (i.e. those who associate partners in worship with Allaah). – Aali ‘Imraan (3):67

And this was enjoined by Ibraaheem (Abraham) upon his sons and by Ya’qoob (Jacob), (saying), “O my sons! Allaah has chosen for you the (true) religion, then die not except in the Faith of Islaam (as Muslims).” – Al-Baqarah (2):132

‘Eesaa (Jesus) – Upon Him Be Peace – Was Muslim:

Then when ‘Eesaa (Jesus) came to know of their disbelief, he said: “Who will be my helpers in Allaah’s Cause?” Al-Hawaariyyoon (the disciples) said: “We are the helpers of Allaah; we believe in Allaah, and bear witness that we are Muslims.” – Aali ‘Imraan (3):52

And when I (Allaah) put in the hearts of Al-Hawaariyyeen (the disciples) [of ‘Eesaa (Jesus)] to believe in Me and My Messenger, they said: “We believe. And bear witness that we are Muslims.” – Al-Maa’idah (5):111

Moosaa (Moses) – Upon Him Be Peace – Was Muslim:

And Moosaa (Moses) said: “O my people! If you have believed in Allaah, then put your trust in Him if you are Muslims.” – Yoonus (10):84

They said: “We believe in the Lord of the ‘Aalameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists). * The Lord of Moosaa (Moses) and Haaroon (Aaron).” * Fir’aun (Pharaoh) said: “You have believed in him [Moosaa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. * Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all.” * They said: “Verily, we are returning to our Lord. * And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Aayaat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims.” – Al-A’raaf (7):121-126

And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Fir’aun (Pharaoh) with his hosts followed them in oppression and enmity, till when drowning overtook him, he said: “I believe that none has the right to be worshipped but He in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am one of the Muslims.” – Yoonus (10):90

Yoosuf (Joseph) – Upon Him Be Peace – Was Muslim:

“My Lord! You have indeed bestowed on me of the sovereignty, and taught me the interpretation of dreams; The (only) Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Waliyy (Protector, Helper, Supporter, Guardian, etc.) in this world and in the Hereafter, cause me to die as a Muslim, and join me with the righteous.” – Yoosuf (12):101

Sulaymaan (Solomon) – upon him be peace – was Muslim:

She said: “O chiefs! Verily! Here is delivered to me a noble letter, * Verily! It is from Sulaimaan (Solomon), and verily! It (reads): “In the Name of Allaah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful; * Be you not exalted against me, but come to me as Muslims.'” – An-Naml (27):29-31
